Kali's Conflict

One conflict that I see in this play is individual vs. society, in the case of Kali. Kali is a lesbian and feels that this conflicts with her beliefs and would interfere with her relationship with the people in her family. I consider this a societal conflict, also, because of the way Kali asks Steve to quiet down when he mentions her being a lesbian and the way that she whispers the word. She is evidently bothered by how others would look at her as well. One key conflict in the play happens between Kali and Steve, when she admits that she is a lesbian and he asks her to marry him. I consider this a key conflict because it is a turning point that opens doors to learn more about each character individually. After this point in the play, we find out that Kali’s reasons for hiding her sexuality and Steve’s reasons for being in such a rush to get married. …show more content…

The romantic comedy, Much Ado About Nothing a play by William Shakespeare, showcases how deception can be viewed in more than one manner. These deceptions rely on the sender, and their tricks and lies can come with good intentions. This play celestially reveals how characters are deceived and how the tricks uncover their emotions, and why they behave in a certain manner. The use of lies and deception in Much Ado About Nothing highlights the idea that tricks and plans are not just for villains and their rapscallious deeds, but tricks are also used to show elation.…

alone, he asks her why she does not refuse Ko-Ko if she does not love him and she replies, “He’s my guardian, and he wouldn’t let me marry you!” (1.1.464-465). It is evident that both characters love each other, but because Yum-Yum is a woman and too young to say anything about her engagement, the law reinforces the love triangle, as she is legally linked to Ko-Ko. As a result, the triangle does not help create positive relationships, but instead, it prevents them from being a happy couple. The play also shows that the love triangle is not a permanent structure, but a temporary one.…

How can individual conflicts be related to a societal conflict? Often in literature the use of double entendre adds to the depth and meaning of the work. William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” is no different as his use of disease and macabre allows an audience to draw conclusions about Denmark and the corruption that is tearing the state apart. Shakespeare intertwines these minute details precariously throughout the progression of the play, which ultimately portrays a picture of the wrong doings that devastated the integrity of the state. These physical aspects, which harm characters in the play, lead to one questioning their uprightness finally leading to the unwinding of a doomed state.…

Shakespeare's timeless dramas predominantly centre around conflict between two opposing characters: Macbeth and Macduff in Macbeth, Romeo and Tybalt in Romeo and Juliet, and of course, Othello and Iago in Othello. I have since concluded that it's really the best way to engage an audience because it encourages stronger audience opinions and alignment to one side or the other; and in the case of Othello, creates a division within the audience as the "correct" or "good" side is less obvious than in the majority of Shakespeare's tragedies. Through my personal reading of Othello, I have come to realise that Iago can be accurately defined as a cynical practical joker throughout the drama of the play; and it is this attribute that wins over much of the audience, and the more naive and ignorant characters like Cassio and Roderigo. It wouldn't be hard to imagine Iago in today's context, conducting cruel or troublesome YouTube pranks, either loved or…
