America loves a good underdog story. When I watch the adventure of those depicted in the films Rudy and Rocky I still get chills. It takes guts for someone who is small in stature to stand up to an accomplished, gifted athlete. Adventure after adventure, the underdog gives us someone we average people can relate to and root for. There is a reason nobody ever sides with the cliché 80’s bad guy that wears a headband and seems to always have a pretty girl under their arm. Finally, a new underdog has exploded onto the scene. She has instilled hope all around the world for those that have witnessed her journey to the top, meet American Ninja Warrior celebrity Kacy Catanzaro.

It Ain't Pretty

Kacy Catanzaro probably knows a thing or two about being underestimated. The gymnast stands at 5 feet tall and weighs close to 100 pounds, she doesn’t look like much, but she packs a punch. Catanzaro made history last night when she became the first woman to complete the finals course on American Ninja Warrior, the newest trend to travel the nation. It’s a show that places athletes all over the world on an extreme obstacle course that has them jumping, swinging, and climbing their way to the finish line. Many of their hopes and dreams die on that course, but those with the right amount of endurance, strength and heart have the ability to complete it.

She was part of the Towson Gymnastics team that went on to win the 2009 and 2010 ECAC championship. As a senior, she was named the NCAA Southeast Regional Gymnast of the Year and the ECAC Gymnast of the Year. Despite her accomplishments, she is still looked at as an
