KVHS Yoga Project

There are various ways to give back to others; whether it’s through donations or volunteer work they can all make a positive impact on the greater community. Personally, I believe the best way to enrich others’ lives is by donating your time. I’ve often been asked, “How many hours of community service does your school require? “Unfortunately, my school does not require volunteer hours; therefore there is noticeably very little youth involvement in our community. I believe volunteering should be done by everyone, even if it’s not required. It not only helps those in need but it’s also beneficial to the volunteers themselves, gaining experience by assisting others as well as creating personal connections. On our first day, our teacher challenged us to find a way to give back to the community. I took the initiative to create the KVHS Yoga Project Peace legacy program, where my school’s yoga class volunteers at the Kings Way Care Center senior’s home. I organized many activities including chair yoga but I encourage many students to simply spend time with the residents, making their final stage of life a little more enjoyable. As the creator and coordinator of this project I feel confident that this program will successfully continue on for years to follow, promoting the youth involvement in the community and hopefully encouraging others to donate their spare time to those in need.
Originally I volunteered because I wanted to gain personal experience, now I realize that making others happy is one of the most gratifying feelings in the world. My community involvement has made me witness poverty, hunger and dementia with all of their consequences first hand, making it my personal mission to educate my peers on all these issues. This experience has allowed me to grow as a person and helped me discover who I really am, and who I want to become in order to make a difference in this world. I intended to change the lives of others but in turn they have changed

When I started volunteering at the Senior Center I was not aware of everything the Senior Center offered. I was also not aware of the many people elders that needed to see and have communication with people. Volunteering at the Senior Center allowed me to talk to the elders that attended the Senior Center. Whenever I got a chance I would sit down and listen to what some of the amazing elders in our community had to say. The impact that being a volunteer at the senior center had on others was to begin with that the cook had a lot more breaks than he would have if I had not been volunteering.…

I have experienced the positive benefits of volunteering in myself and in my community. Being involved is something that I believe every student and sometimes even every working adult needs to strive towards to better themselves. Although it is not always the most well off financially who are always giving the full extent of themselves to their community, it is usually the most content with their lives and the ones who always keep positivity in all that they do. I wish to have this same outlook on my life and the same contentedness towards my life involvements. Volunteering will remain important to me, especially after seeing all the benefits it has wrought in the small community I grew up in.…

There are many different ways in order to give back to the community. A few of these ways include money, time and attitude. Money is, of course, essential to living, therefore a huge amount of money would definitely be helpful but not always necessary. One person does not need to give thousands of dollars to make a difference because someone else can give one dollar and still impact the community. It should be an effort from everyone in the community to give back that way one person doesn 't have to give everything.…

An elderly woman who got to take part in a high school community service project states, “Many think that volunteering is all about what you give. But what catches you by surprise is how much you receive in return.” This demonstrates why many people do not feel that they should give back because they do not believe the benefits that they can get from it as well. Consequently, when creating that feeling of happiness and satisfaction in someone else’s life, it comes back to the person creating it. Volunteering to help someone get tutored, help the handicapped, involve themselves with a program like Meals on Wheels, certain environmental work, etc., not only does one gain from that, but one’s community has been helped because of them.…
