2. On a broader level, stagnant water, excessive reeds, and extreme heat can also play a role in the increased mosquito breeding. Specifically, tropical regions are typical breeding grounds for mosquitos thanks to acute water presence from rain.
3. Shanae’s illness could be caused by the increasing number of mosquitos she has been exposed to, some of which cary viruses. One of Shanae’s mosquito bites most likely transmitted a virus that caused dengue fever, the disease her husband and Kemar read about in the newspaper.

Properly attended drainage will reduce breeding spots of mosquitos and therefore reduce their prevalence. I feel the scale most appropriate for my plan is local, due to the fact that many citizens could have these canals, which would require many employees, and further because it would be a new program. Additionally, starting at the local level to combat mosquitoes in Shanae’s area could just be a starting place. It could eventually encourage other regional and even global areas to improve sanitation of insect harboring locations through weekly or monthly inspections. The short term benefits of this plan is to hopefully encourage the cleanliness of canals and reduce mosquito exposure risk. A long term benefit of this plan is potentially eliminate unsanitary drainage canals that house countless infection carrying mosquitoes. This elimination would ideally reduce the hospitalization of patients with mosquito transmitted diseases like Dengue over time. The environmental implications of my plan could be excessive rain water due to an unpredictable climate , which consequently would cause water in the drainage canals to pool, and be difficult to drain …show more content…
An education program that would benefit Shanae’s community would be a weekly class that informs individuals on the effects of Dengue fever. One message this program would communicate that relates specifically to the issue I focused on in my management plan would be that sanitation is crucial, and can combat infection and sickness caused by mosquito transmission. Information will be posted in Newspapers and on signs at bus stops to introduce the class to newcomers. Once attending the class, information will be shared in classroom and through phone updates. These updates will be sent daily to remind individuals to keep certain areas that are common breeding grounds clean. One important variable the education course must consider is the ability of members in the community to attend the class. This is why the class will be held in a centralized location. Another variable to consider is the amount of interest or level of perceived threat and susceptibility in the community's citizens. Therefore, to emphasize the impact of Dengue, billboards and signs will be posted that contain pictures of sick patients to grasp the attention of people passing by. One final and crucial variable to consider is the financial status of those in the community. Like Shanae’s family, there is presumably many in the area that have low incomes and may not be able to afford proper sanitation equipment or supplies. This is why each week a free cleaning tool will be provided to a random student from the
