Majority of people wonder what makes up a K-9 unit? Most people think that it is just a bunch of dogs that have been taught good tricks that are silly. However, the dogs that make up the K-9 unit have a lot of rich history that has changed the lives of many communities. These dogs have saved people’s lives in combat and in searching for some of the worst criminals that the world have known. The K-9’s are also thought to be man’s best friend because they truly are the reason for why people feel so safe within a large community. These dogs also happen to be the reason why the police can arrest people for things that humans can’t see or smell. This is due to how these dogs are trained to smell and approach different materials. These dogs are more than just a means of comfort, but also a means of protection against enemy lines and the bad people within this world. The K-9 unit has been used throughout history from wars to searching for serial killers. In 1888 “The English used bloodhounds while searching for Jack the Ripper” (John Ivey). This showed everyone that they have helped in the apprehension of horrific criminals that were and still are a threat to everyone’s safety. This career can be a life time choice and can also bring some new furry friends into the handler’s life. Also, the rich history behind the K-9 unit is now a part of your history and legacy. Who would not want to be a part of that? Just remember the next time K-9 unit is working, they have spent several days and hours working with their dogs, and that they never get a break from training. However, if the community did not have these amazing people and dogs the community would not be safe within our daily lives. They have and will continue to save people’s lives during several wars and help bring the most gruesome of murders and or just plain out criminals to
