Vicious offenders, such as killers and rapists, are being freed from prison after short, merciful sentences. What makes these convicts unique? They are juveniles who commit violent and severe crimes. They are taken to juvenile courts, given small sentences, released from confinement or given new selves to neglect what they have done in the past, and they live their lives in exultant bliss; while the victim and their families are left to writhe forever, knowing the killer of their loved ones is free and content. Because of these injustices, I believe that murderers and rapists should receive just sentences regardless of age. Juveniles should be able to be tried as adults in court because they are capable of adult crimes; just punishment is vital to serve justice for the victim and the victim’s family; and youths …show more content…
They are able to commit mature crimes, carry them out without just punishment, and be entirely aware that their actions are wrong, yet they get away with mere, short sentences. Michael O’Keefe, the president of the Massachusetts District Attorneys Association and district attorney for the Cape and Islands, says, “We have to have a system where juveniles, even young juveniles, who commit very sophisticated murders are not beyond the reach of the law” (Khalid). Special treatment should not be awarded for young people who are cold-hearted felons; they should be reprimanded accordingly. This is why I urge you to stop these criminals from executing crimes with impunity. There are many courses of actions one could take to support this ideal. These include: supporting politicians who believe in this, encouraging friends to not get in trouble with the law, writing a letter to congress about this topic, sharing this information with whoever you can, or learning more about this topic to educate others. These people must work together to stop these savages from escaping the
