Juvenile centers are known to have mostly African American men with a long background with drugs and or alcohol abuse, they tend to be placed in juvi for sexual charges. Juvenile inmates tend to be the ones the government works on trying to rehabilitate and help to change their actions before they turn eighteen and more to the jail or get released. According to the Justice Policy Institute, “Locking up a juvenile costs states an average of $407.58 per person per day and $148,767 per person per year when the most expensive option is used”. This means for each juvenile incarcerated the tax payers are hit with the large bill. There are around 500,000 juveniles brought in to a facilitation every year. There are certain mental hospitals that also as jails the only way to be put away is to arrested. As the New York Times states “Psychiatric disorders are the only kind of sickness that we as a society regularly respond to not with sympathy but with handcuffs and incarceration.” This means that a person can’t be held in cuffs and a jail cell with other inmates when they face serious mental issues.
