In a quick summary, the author believes that these scared straight programs will either promote gang affiliation in the teen because of the polices desire to turn them away from it or it will cause teens in the program to show off for the other at risk teams they are with. These two reasons, on average, cause about 13% of the individuals in the study to commit crimes that they otherwise wouldn't have if they weren't in scared straight. I think the authors alternative suggestion of big brother/sisters and community involvement would be two great ways to promote a teen’s social bond to activities that are non-criminal. On the other hand I don't think community service would work as one of these activities because I believe that in most at risk teens, it would promote a feeling that the activity is a punishment. I would suggest that the dad do what my parents did for me, I would promote promote that the father involve his child in more athlete activities that allow her to get her frustrations out in a healthy way such as a sport like lacrosse or basketball or soccer in order to promote good skills like
