Improved Essays
I graduated from Hobbs alternative high school in Roby Texas, in 1997. The alternative school was for students who had been in trouble or for girls who were pregnant and needed to finish school a little sooner or at their own pace. I was not a trouble maker, nor was I pregnant. The school was offered to me as an alternative to spending another year in high school because I did not have enough credits to graduate. I had move between North Carolina and Texas in high school and did not have enough credits to graduate in Texas as where in North Carolina I did. While in high school I did work at Food Lion as a bagboy, cashier, and helped in other departments it was my first actual legitimate job I had until I graduated.
After high school I tried out for a minor league baseball team in Abilene Texas, and then worked at a restaurant called Chicken on the Run in my home town. I was mainly an assistant fry cook, food prep, and dishwasher. I began my day at chicken on the run by separating and washing

This was my first experience working with adult offenders, however these offenders were pre-adjudicated meaning they had been charged with a crime but had not yet had a trial or been convicted by the court system. This environment was a little different than the juvenile facility in that my duty was still to maintain the safety and security of the facility however we were not posted with offenders. We patrolled assigned sections of the jail, again enforcing rules and regulations of the county jail. One of the other duties I learned at the county jail was intake and housing, I finger printed the offenders and booked them into the jail where they were assigned housing until their court date. I only worked at the jail for ten months before I felt like I needed to move on, at this point my ambition outweighed my knowledge and

Entering high school my grandmother had just passed away and my family was in a large feud; I was lost and had no confidence. The community my high school established allowed me to find my niche and gain confidence. I discovered in high school that I am a service oriented and extremely driven student.…

LONG.Session1.Journal I had gone to college the Fall of 1999, following my high school graduation. I had the dream of one day owning and running a bed in breakfast in the mountains of New Mexico. I attended a culinary school about 3 hours away from home and enrolled in Hotel and Restaurant Management. It didn’t take long for the balance of school and working nights to catch up to me. It wasn’t the college class work or the night time job that was difficult, it was the loneliness and financial burden I found overwhelming.…

There have been a lot of challenges I have had to face in the past 17 years already, but the biggest one that has impacted me the most and impacts my future was my early years of high school. When I was a freshman I was entering a new school, new surrounding, new life. When I was 13 -14 years old, the things that mattered to me most was to be “popular” and cool, and care about making memories and friends instead of good grades. I wasn’t thinking about how right then, what I was doing, could effect my whole future. Junior year…

As I am waiting on the side steps of the stage, I patiently stood as they read off our names alphabetically. My hand is temperate, as I am clutching onto the chilled metal stair railing. I could hear the surrounding people in the room clapping and cheering, as it echoed throughout the building as each person was walking across the stage to receive their own diploma. I could feel the butterflies in the pit of my stomach, as I had been waiting for this day for as long as I could remember. The day I was achieving something significant in my family.…

Volunteer Work I have completed over 120 hours of volunteer work. Volunteering has always been important to me because although you don’t receive monetary compensation you do get a certain satisfaction from helping others and putting them first instead of yourself. The experience you gain from volunteering is more valuable than any amount of money because it expands your capabilities and gives you knowledge that is necessary for being successful in life and your career. • SAN FELIPE DE NERI SCHOOL – I volunteered over 40 hours with the afterschool program for children whose parents could not pick them up immediately after school, The program gave the children a safe place to play or do homework until their parents could pick them up. Changing Our School Gold Beach High School has some good to it being in a small town, but because it’s in a small town it also has some issues that could be changed to make a huge difference. If I could change three things about GBHS and how things were run the first thing would be adding more classes for students to take. Doing this would help add classes that are more relevant to students and they could learn what they wanted to. The next thing I would change is how long the school day was and how sports worked. Being in school for almost 8 hours a day just for some students to have to do sports soon after really affects how students can do homework or even interact with their family.…

On Friday, September 30th, I had the opportunity to observe at Oakdale High School. After observing at the high school level, I do not believe I would want to teach high-schoolers. If I decide to teach high-schoolers, the only class that I would be interested to teach would be child development, because I would still get the chance to work with young children. Overall, the high school level does not interest me as a future teacher. Oakdale’s classroom and school did not have many similarities with my high school, which was Catoctin High School.…
