The purpose of a juvenile detention center to me is to rehabilitate the children that they receive. In order to do so they need to nurture and correct them out of care and love when needed. The workers have responsibilities to follow the instruction they receive prior to working. After leaving, the thought of all of the children in that center constantly ran across my mind. I felt as if there was so much more that I could have done, because there was. So after letting this depressing experience get me down, I decided to do something about it. Something that had been on my heart for years, Social Work! I want so desperately to help others get through life and overcome their negative decisions and wounded pasts. Working that job made me realize even more how hurt an lost people in and out of the system need someone like me. Someone who genuinely cares about their wellbeing. Once I get my degree I will make it my business to see that the facilities operating like the one I was employed with are doing things by the book. If they are not I will personally see to it that the ones responsible are held accountable, because parents or guardians that care should be able to rest easily in knowing that their children are being cared for properly.
