Module two gave me an understanding on crimes and characteristics of offenders, statistics, and the factor that contribute to an increase in crime. Also how to evaluate crimes of violence, cultural context, and typology of violent offenders. One of the interesting subjects I learned, was about The National Crime Victimization Survey. “NCVS is an annual data collection that identifies the number and type of criminal victimization that happen in the United States each year” (Crime in the U.S.) The graphic representation includes ages from twelve and older. One of the main purposes of NCVS is to define the changes in the level of personal and household crime overtime. Also to describe the levels of crime experienced by different population subgroups.

The reason for this act was to describe the distribution of criminals and juvenile delinquents thought out the urban area. This is because that arrest date only included the “tip of the iceberg”. (Crime in the United States.) Many offenders were never caught in the majority of crimes. Therefore, offenders who were caught and arrested can be compared to offenders who manage to escape arrest. (Prosecution and Defense Function) The Function of the Standard helps to guide professional conduct and performance.
