Juvenile Correctional Officer Essay

Most of my life I have dreamt of helping people. I love to do things to better people not only as an individual but as a community. Seeing a smile on people face gives my comfort and warms my heart. I thing growing up with a natural instinct to be nurturing has a lot to do with why I am this way. My career goal is to become a successful juvenile correctional officer. I chose juveniles because I feel as if I can help someone change their life around at an early age rather than when they are already set in their ways. Here I will discuss the pros and cons of this career. Also I will describe what steps need to be taken to pursue this career. What is a juvenile correctional officer? A juvenile correctional officer is an officer in a facility to keep order over incarcerated minors. They are considered juveniles because they are under the adult age and are not placed in facility with the adults. Going into this field, you have to complete the minimum requirements. Those requirements consists of: being a U.S. citizen, no younger than 21 but no older than 36, be able to own and carry a firearm, be able to pass a drug test, have no felonies, pass a written and physical exam, and at lease bachelor’s degree. Depends on the location and field some of these requirements are waived. If you have years of correctional experience or have served for the country you may still apply and a college degree is not a necessity. They go through a lot of screening and examination for these positions. They do a thorough check on these applications.
