Justin's Case Study

Justin bleeds so easily because he has a blood coagulation disorder that is brought on by blood clotting which is called Hemophilia A or Hemophilia B depending on which factor is deficient within his body (VIII or IX). In Justin’s case we are not presented with enough information to diagnose his type of hemophilia. However, a deficiency of either one of these factors can lead to problems with blood clotting that can cause severe bruising and bleeding even with minor trauma. It is possible that Justin’s brother that died from the head trauma at the age of one also had hemophilia which caused internal bleeding in his head (the intracranial hemorrhage) when he fell from the crib causing his death. So it is not abnormal that Justin’s happened to come out normal as well. Justin’s health over the past couple of years is highly correlated with the blood disease that he was diagnosed with in 1983. The primary cause is believed to be the multiple injections of plasma he received over the years to help replace the missing factor within his blood. Being that Justin was diagnosed so long ago when a lot of new diseases were surfacing, many hospitals did not have the right technology or did not test every patient for HIV/AIDS before extracting blood or blood plasma. This causes problems for Justin and other patients with blood diseases because they are unknowingly contracting these diseases from the plasma injections they are receiving which is causing their poor health.
