Justin Trudeau Leadership

The leader of the Liberal party, Justin Trudeau, has promised middle class Canadians a real change. His plan includes a higher tax rates from families with annual income of 200,000 and higher. Currently the wealthiest 1% of Canadians are paying 29% tax and Mr. Trudeau is planning on changing the rate to 33%. He is also committed to lowering the tax rates for the working class; currently most middle class families pay 22% and Mr. Trudeau’s goal is to make it to 20%. The liberal leader also talked about making Child Care Benefit tax-free to all families with annual income below than 150,000 and increase the Canada Pension Plan contributions. As Justin Trudeau says: “A strong middle class means a strong economy” throughout the research and debates …show more content…
Mr. Mulcaire has many plans to keep his promise such as not raising the personal income taxes, lower the tax rates for small business to 9%, create $15-a-day national child care program and increase Canada Pension Plan contributions. By 2016 NDP has promised to make a balanced budget. Compared to Liberal party, this party focuses more on the manufacture and the families with children and low annual income. Mr. Mulcaire has not talked about the middle class and how he is planning on making it stronger. Peter Fragiskatos on his debate talked about the significant differences between their plans with NDP, he said: “I point the example of taxation, we want to make the taxation system fair, we’re asking the 1% of the Canadians earning $200,000 a year or more to pay a little bit more of tax to create a fairer country, currently their paying 29% and we’re asking them to pay 33%, that’s one difference, the NDP is not committed to that.” I think it is very important to higher the taxes for large corporations and wealthy families. Although this party has strong plans but the liberal’s plans would be more affective when it comes to the …show more content…
He has increased Universal Child Care Benefit, as well as the annual contribution limit for TFSAs. He has planned to reduce the tax rate for small businesses by 2019. He also plans on creating 1.3 million new jobs for Canadian by 2020. Personally I believe that if there was a plan for the economy, we wouldn’t be in recession. Looking at the debates with one of the conservative candidates, Michelle Rempel, she said: “Number that were presented earlier this year certainly show that we are posting a surplus for the first part of the year, as well as the bank of Canada said that over 80% of the economy is continuing to grow and in terms of our plan this is why we pursed a low-tax agenda at the federal tax burden it’s at its lowest level in 50 years…” but looking at The Bank of Canada and The PPO they both said that there is no way the conservatives will have the kind of growth they predicted in the budget. This clearly shows that the conservative’s plans about the economy have either failed or there really isn’t a plan after

Ontario Liberals have a long tradition of working to improve the lives of all Ontarians. Today we continue on in the best tradition of the early party – whether it be making post-secondary education more affordable, and more in reach, giving families more money to help with the high cost of raising their kids, or investing in sustainable infrastructure, which makes our communities safer and more resilient, even helping to make Ontario a North American leader in clean technology – attracting more, higher paying jobs for Ontario families. It is important that the people who live here, and that will be mostly affected by who is chosen to become prime minister has their fair share of needs met, and their opinions voiced. With the cost of post-secondary…

He then goes on to say the support of the middle class does not represent any of these traditional ideological values of the parties. It is quite disconcerting that the political leaders seem to create a large amount of policy based on gaining a target amount of votes from people who do not really need help or do not support the business needs of the country. The suggestion that all political parties only share a single common interest and that that interest is winning the votes of the middle class is really a quite cynical and depressing way of looking at our political system. The author makes a good point that this conversion of policies intended to target specific voters does seem to be happening to a certain extent, but to go so far as to say that the parties in Canada do not hold ideological values in their policies is a little bit of an…

I found the course Selected Topics in Canadian Society to be difficult to complete, due to the amount of readings and, having been diagnosed with certain learning disabilities, I found it a struggle to understand the material sometimes. Despite this and the additional time spent to grasp the content, I found the course to be extremely interesting in regards to subjects such as social phenomena, finances, power, gender, social class and how the government has formed and is continuing to transform many of our Canadian cultures today. The course has allowed me to critically think about the many Canadian social issues we have been through and what we currently continue to struggle with. It is evident the changes in political and economic conditions…

Thesis: To reduce, and potentially eradicate generational poverty in Canada, efforts must be focused on three critical aspects, or EAR: education, awareness, and redistribution. Argument 1: Increasing education levels amongst the poor helps them acquire knowledge and skills, which leads to jobs and money- eventually, they can become functioning working class members of society. Argument 2: Greater public awareness can lead to greater community assistance, which is vital since it results in better programs, campaigns, funding, and volunteerism. Argument 3: The redistribution of wealth and income through means of taxes and governmental programs can provide the poor with much-needed money and accessibility. I wouldn’t describe myself as a true conservative or a true liberal, I would more accurately describe myself as economically conservative: favouring low taxes, and less government intervention in the economy but socially more liberal. While I share the belief of the Conservative Party of Canada “that it is the responsibility of individuals to provide for themselves, their families and their dependents, while recognizing that government must respond to those who require assistance and compassion” (Conservative Party of Canada, p.2, 2013). I do not believe that the Conservative Party does enough to promote immigration or social justice. Socially I favour the policies of the Liberal Party of Canada specifically from their 2015 platform on “expanding Canada’s intake of refugees from Syria by 25,000” (Liberal Party of Canada,…

Americans would prefer to raise the tax money we need by using the taxes that have the excess costs. Mainly, americans will be richer by having a progressive tax, rather than using taxes which destroy more economic activity for the same amount of earnings made. Overall, the facts show that there is eiificiency with progressive tax, but moving on to the equity portion, the progressive tax systems reduce tax burdens on people who can least afford to pay them, and these systems leave more money for the people with low-wage earnings, who are likely to spend all of their money and stimulate the economy. Progressive tax systems also have the ability to collect more taxes than flat taxes or regressive taxes, as tax rates increase as earnings climb. Also, progressive taxes allow the people with the greatest amount of resources to fund a greater portion of the services, that all people and businesses rely on, such as roads and first responders.…
