I have never taught 2nd or 3rd grade before and am trying to keep in mind the developmental stages Harper describes for ages 7-9. I like the idea of providing failure free activities, allowing students to take ownership and choice in class. On a unit for health students would be allowed to pick a topic of their choice and also choose from a list of projects to complete or come up with their own project for approval. The projects should try to reach various learning styles and be differentiated to accommodate all learners. One activity I found that is failure-free that can be used with a reference inquiry is Tabletop Twitter. Students answer questions and pose questions on large chart paper in stations around the room. I’m in the process of writing plans for the younger students and am looking for good activities. I definitely want to introduce t hem to the nonfiction texts available to them through Open eBooks the new free Open eBooks app for Title 1 and all Special Education kids. It is the only collection I have to work with right
