Everyone knows that when going war hundreds of people will most likely die, but no one has ever thought about the innocence. The text “Winter soldiers” talks about what soldiers do at war, even when nobody tells them to. It's …show more content…
The text “war and peace” talks about how during this war the nation had been divided into two, it also talks about how many people did not want to be drafted or apart of the war. According to the text it states, “Some men refuse to serve, becoming draft dodgers by escaping to Canada and other safe harbors.” This shows what many people would do just to not be apart of this war. They would leave everything just to escape getting a drafting card and having to go to war. Another example is in the text “Kent State Students Protest” the talks states, “These protests usually were peaceful and included such things as burning draft cards, fleeing to Canada or some other country to escape the draft…” Once again it talks about people leaving the country. Shouldn't it be the other way around, American wants to be strong and without anyone being there America can't be as strong as they want to be. “American land of the free” they say but this doesn't seem so free does it. This is because the only way of ending war is to fight the war. What President Lyndon B. Johnson addressed John Hopkins University he talks about how America fights and goes to war so that they can make the world a better place and that they are only keeping there promise to other nations, it reads, “But we dream of an end to war. And we will try to make it so.” Showing that we have to fight to end wars around the war and to try and make peace with everyone. However is this really the way to stop war? Fighting fire with fire just makes a bigger fire. What about using once words. Parents always tells their kids to use words and not fight so why don't they take there own advice. The song “What's Going On?” Talks about how there is no need for war, when they can just talk it out. Lines thirty-one through thirty-two states, “ Don't punish me with brutality, Talk to me.” One does not need to fight to get there way, they can just talk it out. Everyone tells their kids to do it yet they are hypocrites about it. If the parents aren't doing it, why should the kids? One as to go through all the steps before going to war because one can't bake a cake without making the cake
