In the novel The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, takes place in Salem, Massachusetts where many characters are taking advantage of the corrupted justice system to create false accusations on people they had grudges on. These corrupted people are using the justice system where people will be incarcerated if they accepted to being a witch or they “[promised] hangin’ if they’ll not confess” even if they are telling the truth (Act I). At the begging of the book Proctor and Abagail are introduced to being in an affair, thus Abigail accuses Proctors wife, Elizabeth, to take her place.
