Terry Eagleton's Quote Analysis

Great Essays
“Genuine equality means not treating everyone the same, but attending equally to everyone’s different needs.” Terry Eagleton. Eagleton’s quote means that justice doesn’t follow the political laws, that everyone’s justice is different for them. Justice is different for everyone because everyone has different views on politics, because people have different views in society and towards what they believe will be a good system for the American government system. Also political ideas change over time to conform to justice. It has been seen in women’s rights, civil rights movement, and the war on Axis powers. Justice was seen before the political views changed. For instance, it has been seen in history that Martin Luther King Jr.’s march for equality …show more content…
They both have been fighting their personal issues, Donald Trump is about his sexist comments, and Hillary Clinton is about the deleted emails. From these two examples, almost everything people think about when they hear about them, is negative. There is rarely any positive news about them anymore. “I have never yet heard from anyone, in the form I would like to hear it, the argument for justice, the argument that is something better than injustice.” (38, 358, D). This quote is a perfect description of this election so far. The media only focuses on the unjust things the presidential candidates have done. They rarely, if ever, focused on the just things the candidates have ever done. Donald Trump is a big veteran supporter, values patriotism, and is engrossed in making a change for the country’s good, Hillary Clinton is a respected leader, being an active leader for feminist, she is for equal race rights. The media is making the presidential candidates look bad by focusing on the couple bad mistakes they have …show more content…
She has left soldiers to die in Benghazi, she lies, and she has deleted many confidential emails. She is wanting the power to continue doing wrong. Hillary has already shown how she deals with issues with the emails and Benghazi. Hillary will probably die while in office if she is elected, because her health has seen to be deteriorating since the beginning of the campaigning for president. She has been seen coughing, unable to stand by herself, she even was late to a debate. People see Hillary Clinton as the better of the two evils since she has the lead in most poles. People do not understand the impact on our country if Hillary gets elected as president. She doesn’t respect or appreciate the criminal justice system, and she doesn’t talk about her international ideas of peacefulness. She will be the down fall of America. In the end, the outcome of this presidential election will cause an uproar no matter who gets elected president. From the two presidential candidates, Donald Trump, to Hillary Clinton, we will not be able to see the just ideas from the political ones, but over time we will begin to see the justice in whoever’s actions and plans that is elected as president. With all the controversial scandals occurring between these two candidates, we might have to wait a while for society to see the justice of their actions from the past and their actions that are yet to

In times of injustice, a nation must accept the necessity of change and embrace new ideas that will create justice in the system. For the United States, some of these changes have occurred through the process of amending our Constitution to match the changing times. In 1789 it was the rights of the people, in 1865 it was the abolishing of slavery, and in 1920 it was giving women the right to vote. However, those ideas did not stop there. For example, abolishing slavery was not the end of the fight for the rights of African Americans, and a Bill of Rights did not stop the people from arguing for more rights, such as same sex marriage.…

In all it’s cold, hard glory, equality has not always been apart of certain eras of humanity. Imagine one’s life without basic rights. Simply put, many decades have passed where the majority of people have not been served justice, or human rights. It has taken several groups of determined people, events and causes to get to where we are today. African Americans in particular could not use the same amenities, or go to the same places, it was pure segregation.…

Merriam Webster defines equality as the quality or state of having the same rights, social status, etc., but who is included in this “equality,” and can the U.S. really have equality among its people? Johnathon Dunn defines equality as not being the same, but being treated equally no matter your race, social status, or sexuality. Everyone should have the same rights available to him or her. Several works of literature have struggled to define equality over the years including “Harrison Bergeron” and the 14th amendment. These two pieces of literature have their similarities as well as their differences, but, by assessing these, I will be able to side with one of these viewpoints.…

In Anthem, the protagonist, Equality, lives in a society where it is illegal to have an ego. Every aspect of their life is controlled by the ruling government. Essentially they are all robots. The government had not only stripped the protagonist of his basic human rights but they also had dehumanized all citizens of this post-apocalyptic civilization. Equality makes a justifiable response to the human rights infringement by fleeing into the forest to escape the tyranny.…

Power and Politics President Bill Clinton, once said: “In our hearts and in our laws, we must treat all our people with fairness and dignity, regardless of their race, religion, gender or sexual orientation. ”(Stephanie Sarkis Ph.D). This defines that we should treat everyone around us equally and fairly even though equality isn’t always fair. In Anthem the scholars have the right to tell everyone what they will do with the rest of their life and when they will eat or when to go to sleep. I stand in my position believing that equality isn’t always fair because every society has different ranks, abilities are being limited, and ethnic groups getting treated differently.…

In the beginning of “Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin”, there was a clip of Bayard Rustin giving a speech. “…I want no human being to die because I thoroughly believe that this struggle can be one without brutalization… We call for a non-violent uprising with people sitting, standing, being arrested, white and black together.”…

This is how our life would be today without Thomas Jefferson writing the Declaration of Independence(DOI). These three ideals of the DOI are the most important for various reasons. We have Hillary Clinton representing the Democratic Party infamous for her shady email controversy, which allegedly lead to numerous of…
