At the time, a white male and a black female getting married was unthinkable and was looked upon with contempt. There were actual state laws that prevented whites from marrying blacks. This case discusses how Virginia's law to segregate blacks and whites from marrying each other was eventually overturned by the superior court because of the Fourteenth Amendment's Equal Protections Clause.…

Simpson Trial: Night of the Murders Timeline, 2007) The contrast in these cases is that Casey Anthony was said to be carefree throughout the month that her two year old daughter Caylee went missing and Casey had nothing to occupy her time with, so she could have well as likely be a good candidate as the murder, while with OJ Simpson, they looked at him as always being a busy man, who on the very same night as the double murder, was still on the move, although claiming he overslept. “Justice for Eric Garner”, was the first of many hashtags I have seen that morning. Out of curiosity, I searched up Eric Garner and I clicked on the first video I have seen. The video had a thumbnail with a man with a group of police officers on top of him, from there my heart dropped knowing that it can’t be good. As the video went on and the situation started to escalate my heart was pounding out of fear of what I thought I might see. The moment I have seen the officer get him in a headlock and wrestle him to the ground, I felt like the officer was doing that to me, like I couldn’t breathe.…

Born in a family of Mexican immigrants, Sandra Cisneros discovers her niche in the American literature by writing from her experience as an immigrant growing at the confluence of two cultures. Until her teenager years, Cisneros’ family moves back and forth from Chicago to Mexico, making her feel not integrated in either culture. As Robin Ganz declares, Cisneros “derived inspiration from her cultural specificity and found her voice in the dingy rooms of her house on Mango Street, on the cruel but comfortable streets of the barrio, and in the smooth and dangerous curves of borderland arroyos” (1). In her short story, “Woman Hollering Creek”, Cisneros describes the life of a Mexican woman, Cleofilas that marries a man from “el otro lado” in the…

“He’d dreamed he was going through a grove of timber trees where a gentle drizzle was falling, and for an instant he was happy in his dream, but when awoke he felt completely spattered with bird shit” (3). “A gentle drizzle” is referring to the weather on the day of Santiago’s murder, “the weather was funereal, with a cloudy, low sky and the thick smell of still waters, and that at the moment of misfortune a thin drizzle was falling like the one Santiago Nasar had seen in his dream grove” (4). In these two quotes, we can really tell the difference in between dreams and reality. In your dreams, you are free to think what you want and to do things you would normally not do in society.
