As the textbook states about the juvenile courts “is not for the punishment for the offender but for the salvation of the children… whose salvation may become the duty of the state”. In this quote, we see that the goal of the juvenile court system is not for punishment, but to help juveniles better themselves as to better distance themselves from the court system by following the Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act (JJPD). By following the JJPD’s deinstitutionalization of status offenders, they kept status offenders away from detention centers, and also away from the influence of delinquents.
