Literature hold various components of structure and style. After reading the essay, “Just Think: The Changes of a Disengaged Mind,” by Timothy Wilson, it can presume that this essay is written in a plain style. In the word plain style, the word plain symbolize simplicity. Accordingly, the style that this essay holds is the simple concept of constructing sentences into plain English, by using simplest words. It is true that the author has used the plain style to pursue to convey the audiences, but why did the author intend to present his work in a plain style, he could have constructed his essay in any structure or style. The beginning of the essay mentions the structure and the style of the authors essay, and the previous paragraph was about the conventional representation of his work in the essay. In previous paragraph it was concluded that in order to have a conventional representation of your work you need an argument, details to support claims with some trustworthy data. We talked about his argument that people do not spend more time without doing anything, but we didn’t talk about the supporting details. He has used the survey study of Americans in his essay, which says, “ninety-five percent of American adults reported that they did at least one leisure activity in the past 24 hours, such as watching television, socializing, or reading for pleasure, but 83% reported they spent no time whatsoever ‘relaxing and thinking’.” In other words, ninety-five percent of people were spending their time by doing some activity. Another notable example would be him talking about the details of the data, in which he included, “Table 1 summaries the results of six studies that followed this procedure.
