Just Mercy Reflection

Improved Essays
Throughout taking Writing 100, I now understand a deeper complexion of myself, as well as an improvement on my writing abilities. Through the use of my “Just Mercy” paper as well as my commonplace book- I can look back and understand important aspects of growth and how these assignments have taught me about myself. I have not only grown as a writer, but as a person who understands the world in a new light. While writing my paper on “Just Mercy” I had no previous extensive knowledge on our current judicial system, nor the people it affected. I truly believed that there were very little mistakes in that branch of government. I figured that whoever was put on trial deserved that punishment, and that is a very ignorant thing to believe. Throughout writing my paper on Just Mercy, I conducted lots of research on the topic and took my time writing. I felt that it would be a good idea to go through my book and highlight important information that I deemed necessary to produce a well written essay. Creating a background of my topic allowed me to obtain a better grasp on the information I was writing about. I then proceeded to create an outline of my paper. I figured that I should break up each paragraph into sections, starting with my thesis - then creating a few well rounded body paragraphs that clearly demonstrate my knowledge on the subject. I ended with a conclusion that provided a question to the reader. After I was finished with my rough draft I decided to verify that I had the right idea by showing it to my professor. He gave me some suggestions and I went back to the grind in hopes of writing a well thought out essay. As peer review day came, I noted what my classmates suggested I improved on and made some changes to the paper. After having over four sets of eyes already look over it, I let two of my other friends outside of the classroom give me their thoughts. This was my journey to the final draft. I believe that I could probably improve on time management. Although I didn’t wait till the last minute to begin writing, I feel that starting to seriously think about the paper the day it was assigned …show more content…
I find myself being a procrastinator, and a somewhat non-patient person. Both of these things are not necessarily good traits, but they both can be fixed with some time and effort. It is critical to think highly of yourself, even when times get tough. I know that can be hard sometimes given the circumstances, but it will pay off in the end. Not only have I become a better writer, but I have become a better person. I have a greater understanding of those around me and have successfully been able to assist those in need. Writing has opened my eyes to the real difficulty of the world and what it takes to survive. If one decides to fail, then they will fail. It is that of which a person puts forth maximum effort in everything they do, then they will

Where is a student to start when they are required to write a masterpiece? Personally, I start with a list of ideas that I brainstormed. By doing this, I can get a clear image of not only what I want to truly write about, but I can do further research on the ideas to see if they can connect to a possible thesis statement. Once I fully understand my topic and argument it is time to write one of the most important elements of any essay: the thesis statement. There are several formulas to create thesis statements, for example: A is B because x,y,z.…

Personally, starting any type of paper or written assignment has been a challenge for me in the past, however it has changed after what I learned during the semester. When I enrolled for English 1A class one of the main aspects I wanted to learn was to properly start a paper or any form of writing assignment at the college level. I was given the handout on “How To Write A College Essay- The Structure”, which helped me to a great extent. It provided me with a formula on how to start papers. It was base for all my written assignments in college and I saw results with by having my time completing assignments and papers decrease.…

I understand what I need to write about, but just do not know how to start it. However, what has helped me with my writing process has been setting up a draft in which I write down what I will talk about in each paragraph. Also, peer reviews have helped me so much with my writing process. I like having my peers read over my essay and give me feedback. This helped me know where I needed to make changes and parts I did well on.…

If I was writing a paper that required a specific number of paragraphs or pages I would typically plan my paper using the four square method. If I was writing an important paper I would write a rough draft, then as I was typing it I would revise it and fix any mistakes I found. One thing that remained consistent in my writing process, no matter the type of paper, is after I wrote the paper I would try to find more grade level appropriate words instead of the simple words I originally used. While writing essays for this class I came to find it is better to combine my writing processes to write the best possible essay I could. I found the best steps for me to take in writing my paper are to write my ideas down in some form.…

Next, we had to draft an outline to better clarify our idea before starting to write our first draft essay .It was during the practicing of the outline that I improved my writing organization, which has been one of my issue in the previous classes. I benefited also of the quick look of my classmates, we call it peer review section. Honestly, I like that one. Sometimes, I was sure that my draft was ready to be submitted, but my classmates helped me to find those little mistakes that were still unknown.…

Secondly, while creating my writing piece I was reminded how to properly format and structure as well as choose better use of language. Every writing proposal I was presented with had a certain format and structure. For example, the way I would set up a paper explaining a problem versus the way I would set up an argument piece are very different. My use of language though this course has developed by creating sentences that flow nice and smooth. Finally, revising drafts and receiving feedback from my teacher and classmates has helped for the most part.…

I’m not at all where I probably should be as a writer, but I feel like I have improved my writing skills. Through this English class and my amazing Professor, I have gained an appreciation for literature and have been able to write from experience rather than because I have too. My English improved dramatically through finally understanding how to put all the information I have researched into a paper. I feel more comfortable in writing my papers because I know I’m not just putting random information to fill up my word count. I met my personal writing goal more than I thought I would.…

As soon I started working on the paper, my mind was raising to the body paragraph where I put most of my effort and focus instead of providing more information on the introduction. But after getting a feedback from the professor, I promise to myself to always proportion the time that I spend on writing and improve the number of words to be at least 200 or more as it was mentioned in the book and also by Mr. Christopher Jone my English professor. I made a little improvement in every essay introduction that I wrote since then, not only on the word count but also on providing more information on the…
