In this prison the woman were raped, sexually harassed, abused, and assaulted by Correction Officers. Male Wardens were allowed in the showers during counts and the Chaplin was sexually assaulting woman in the chapel. Some of the woman got pregnant by the officers and DNA test proved the officers were the biological father of the imprisoned woman infants. The Officers who were reported multiple times would just relocate temporarily and end up back at the prison. How did this happen? How did other people working in the prison know and not say anything? How could women in jail get pregnant? give birth? and it be okay? Who did these DNA test that proved the officers raped the woman? Why weren’t they punished ? I would have loss my mind. It would have been the longest ten years of my life. No one cared about the mental or emotional health of the woman. The women couldn’t defend or stand up for themselves. There’s a part of the book that stated how Marsha felt about not being able to give her kids certain things so she showered them with love to make up for what she couldn’t give them, like any mother who loved their children. The feeling you get when you can’t provide for your children is devastating. It’s also one of the reasons why I’m a college student now.
