Everyone handles pressure differently. Some people get shaky and unorganized while others use pressure to fuel their performance. Competitive shooting has been my passion for years and my match at the 2016 Junior Olympic Rifle Competition in Colorado Springs, Colorado, is my most memorable experience. My shooting career depended on my performance at this match, and I never expected to do as well as I did. Shooting may appear easy, but in reality shooting goes far beyond anyone’s idea of difficulty.

Since it is the first command given, shooters now have fifteen minutes to approach their firing points and get ready for sighters. Each individual has their own routine as to how they approach this time, but my method is well rehearsed and somewhat different from many others. I am suddenly bombarded by the sound of empty gunfire, which is shots coming from air rifles without putting in a projectile. Doing so makes sure that your air rifle is purged from old air that may have lost pressure from your previous shooting. I do the same with mine and take aim at the target. The target systems are something from the future. They work by having a projectile break three lasers then triangulating the position of the projectile at a specified distance. For this match the distance from the firing line to that location is ten meters, just as the distance in the Olympics. My first several shots are alright, but they are not champion quality. I adjust the dials on my sights, which slightly raises my aperture to sight in my gun for this particular
