Jurgis’ family acts as if everything is okay, but they are going though a lot as Jurgis away and problems arise. Conner was Ona’s boss and he took advantage of her, raping and threatening her by firing her whole family. Jurgis was extremely ange of what had happened and he began to beat Conner which resulted in him going to jail. Jurgis and Ona also had to deal with the problems that their children had as a cause of the cold weather and horrible working conditions. “It was horrible horrible!
