The first one being science fiction. Science fiction is literature involving elements of science and technology as a basis for conflict (“S”). Science fiction books usually include an exotic setting (“S”). Science fiction novels usually focus on how science and technology affect people (“S”). Jurassic Park falls under this genre because it shows the effects of how the cloning of DNA and the use of technology cannot be relied on the keep the dinosaurs away from people. When the computers fail it results in many dangerous situations for humans. Jurassic Park also falls under the thriller genre. A thriller is a novel intended to arouse feelings of excitement or suspense (“T”). In Crichton’s book the dinosaurs escape creating suspense. When the t-rex gets out of the electric fence and starts to go after the humans it creates feelings of excitement. This leaves readers wondering what will happen next causing this book to be placed in the thriller genre.
Crichton book Jurassic Park contained many literary techniques, one of them being symbolism. The symbol used in Jurassic Park is the Hupia (Sparknotes). The Hupia spirits that are purported to dwell on offshore islands and kidnap children (Sparknotes). The hupia are used as a symbol in the novel because hupia links the concept of the hupia to both the word "raptor" and the local lizard attacks, the dinosaurs cloned are attacking children just like the hupia were supposedly doing
