Space craft finally approaching Jupiter. With NEXT, which is NASA’s new propulsion system using xenon propellant with blistering speed of up to 90,000 miles per hour, the crew traveled to Europa in about 200 days. NEXT provide same amount of energy with 860 kg of xenon propellant compare to 10,000 kg propellant in old technology and have five and a half years life time. To save food, water, energy, and space for long distance space travel, all crew members are in a state of deep sleep with very low metabolic rate. Space craft will wake up them when it is ready to enter the orbit of Europa. Space craft will use gravity of Jupiter and moon’s orbit as an assist to decelerate and create an angular momentum to

There are rock like things cover the ground, and I can’t tell if it is ice. Above the horizontal, half of Jupiter occupies one third of the sky, and the Sun is just a small bright spot that is much smaller than the Sun we can see on Earth. Weather condition seems mild because it is peace and quiet outside. But in fact, there’s no atmosphere on Europa. Because of this, Europa can’t regulate its temperature to a moderate level. Our landing site is near equator, so the temperature outside is about -260 F, which is way more better than the -370 F poles. Condition outside is harsh not only because of the temperature, but also the radiation. As the largest planet in the solar system, Jupiter traps charged particles in its rotating magnetosphere and forms radiation belt. The intensity of charged particles on Europa ranges in 1-keV to the tens-of-MeV. This range is because Jupiter’s magnetosphere rotates with the planet about every ten hour while it takes 3.5 Earth days for Europa to orbit Jupiter. So not all of Europa experiences the same exposure. It is disappointing to think about the harsh weather outside while dress my space suit

America chose "to go to the moon in this decade, ... not because [it was] easy, but because [it was] hard." Was this really true? Some believe that there was never much thought put into the decision, and this explanation by President Kennedy was really a cop out that showed that his administration did not place any real thought into deciding whether or not to go to the moon. However, many explanations for the attempt to go to the moon are very compelling. One explanation was that America had to keep up with and surpass Soviet advances in outer space because of the Cold War.…

The Apollo Missions are a very important part of the space explorations project that the United States of America underwent. The missions consisted of tests and planning that ultimately landed men upon the moon. This was a great feat for mankind and allowed us to further investigate space technology and transform it into what we have today so that we might be able to further discover the world around us (Nasa). These missions allowed for us to understand the moon and it’s relationship to the planet Earth-- its orbit, what it’s made of etc.…

Since its humble beginnings as ARPANET, the internet has become a tool in which citizens can “exercise...a range of human rights, and promote progress of a society as a whole” (United Nations 1). If the United States and its allies were to create a space colony, it would be safe to assume that such a colony would feature a democratic form of government. When this colony is developing laws, it is safe to assume that such laws would not differ much from what society currently deems as human rights here on earth. Therefore; a feature of the space colony must be universal access to a liberally self-regulated internet because it is a facilitator of a host of human rights.…

Although much progress has been made in recent years in helping LGBT Americans not be a marginalized group, the way Noah is treated like an alien in I’ll Give You The Sun illustrates how being LGBT still puts you into a marginalized group. Being in a marginalized group means it’s less likely that you were to be accepted, get jobs, find friends and partners, and even makes it more difficult to do the things you love. It’s much more likely that you will be criticized and discriminated against if you are of the LGBT group than if you were straight. This is because it is not universally accepted to be LGBT at this point. Being a member of the LGBT community puts you into a marginalized group which means you would not be accepted as a member of…

In discussions of space exploration, one controversial issue has been whether or not humans should colonize space. Space colonization is the permanent habitation of any area outside of the Earth. During the Cold War, the United States and the Soviet Union were in competition to become the ultimate spacefaring nation. Many people in the 1960s believed that within the decade, space exploration would be possible. Now as the technology to make faster and more powerful spacecrafts is progressing, the venture is becoming more and more of a reality.…
