Growing up most kids participate in basketball, football, and baseball. But growing up with a father who was a wrestler, I chose to wrestle. My dad got me started in wrestling when I was about three years old; I instantly loved it. I fell in love with the sport and by the time I was in high school, wrestling was about the only sport I participated in. My freshman and sophomore years were a bit rough, as I wasn’t big enough to field the lightest weight class. By the time I was a junior I was big enough to strap on a varsity singlet. As most wrestlers do, I cut an insane amount of weight. I started the season weighing around 130 pounds and wrestled in the 106 pound weight class. I struggled to keep my weight down and even missed a meet because I was overweight. …show more content…
I spent countless hours in a sauna with a plastic suit, ran so many miles on my treadmill, not even to mention all the hours we spend in practice. At the end of the year I got second place at my district and qualified for the state tournament. I went into the state tournament not expecting to place, but had dreamed of placing at this tournament since I started wrestling. I lost my first match, then wrestled back and strung together two consecutive wins to place 8th. Although, I wasn’t a state champ, I accomplished one of my lifetime goals. After all the hard work, and everything I finally was able to call myself a state placewinner. My name is now hung in my high school’s wrestling room and will be there forever. Placing at state took a whole lot of effort, but looking back it was all worth

For my senior culminating project I helped coach the Junior High School wrestling team. I chose this project because I believed as a senior and with five years of experience why not benefit the younger generation of forks wrestlers. I believe wrestling can help people in all aspects of life like my coach wheeler always says " once you've wrestled, everything else is easy". I would have to agree with this quote with my experience before and after I wrestled. I started this project February 22, 2016 and ended on March, 16th 2016.…

Have you ever felt that all the hardwork you have put into something has been worthless? This is the exact feeling I felt when I lost my varsity spot for the 138 pound weight class on my high school wrestling team. The previous year as a freshman I had been very successful making it to state and helping my team win the state championship, but I was a 106 pounder, the lowest weight class. Over the summer I gained nearly thirty pounds, and I was now wrestling at the 138 pound weight class. I wasn't use to the weight.…

As I ate breakfast, I talked to my dad about strategy, opponents, and if I was confident going into the day. I admitted I was a little nervous, but my dad assured me that it was going to be a good day. So, with a little pep in my step and warm waffles in my belly, I headed out the door into the cool winter morning, loaded my stuff in the car, and buckled in for the ride. Today was the Southeastern Regional tournament for wrestling. This year the Southeast Regional was held in Atlanta, Georgia, at the Gwinnett Center.…

When most people think of wrestling, the first thing that comes to their mind is the fake “professional” wrestling you see on television with the goofy costumes, silly names and the use of props. Well, the real sport of wrestling dates back to before the first olympic games were held back in ancient Greece in 776 B.C. The sport of wrestling was actually the sport that started the great thing today that we call the olympics. Since the time of the Greeks and Romans, wrestlers have competed both on the battle field and at home to see who will win. Many sports advertise challenging competition similar to that of wrestling, but very few can follow through with these promises. This happens because these other sports do not build themselves on set standards such as mental and physical strength and technique. These important parts of wrestling have set it apart for centuries. As a wrestler, I know that these standards make wrestling not only a sport, but a lifestyle.…
