Junior Preschool Classroom Observation

This observation will focus on the child/child interactions of the Junior Preschool Room. This school is Pasadena City College Child Development Center and has students ages four-months-old to five-years-old. Within the Junior Preschool room, the teachers and assistant teachers there was Ms. Erika(assistant), Mr. Francisco(assistant), Ms. Nimfa, Mrs. Marisol (specialist teacher), Mrs. Erica(assistant), and Mrs. Oswald. During the time of the observation were 14 children in the classroom. The children in the Junior Preschool classroom are three to four-years-old. Also, the school has an Infant and Toddler Program, Preschool Program, and it serves as a laboratory school for students who are Child Development majors. The activity that was observed was a playdough activity in the Science Area of the classroom. There was an opportunity to observe the children engage with playdough because it was free play during the time before all the students were in the classroom. Children’s interactions thrive on engaging through play and working together with their peers by using verbal communication. …show more content…
In the class during the time of the observation there were 14 students in the classroom. During the time of the observation, children were engaged in free choice within various areas of the classroom. Some of the children in the classroom were listening to a teacher read them a story in the literacy area. In addition, other children in the classroom were eating breakfast in the art area. Also, students that were observed were playing with playdough by rolling it on a tray with a rolling bin and put various cookie cutter shapes into the playdough.
