Junie B Jones Short Biography

Barbara Park was born in Mount Holly, New Jersey on April 21, 1947. She had two children named Steven and David. She also loved spending time with her two grandsons as well. She graduated from University of Alabama in 1969. Throughout college she want to teach high school history and political. After graduating with her college with her secondary education degree she quickly realized writing was calling her name. Her senior year of high school she was voted “wittiest”. When she knew teaching was not for her that is when she start to write humor. She want to know if her writing would witty enough to make money. Rejections after rejection, finally Alfred A. Knopf Books for Young Readers was interested in her first manuscript. Her first book was Don’t Make Me Smile and it was published in 1981. She wrote over fifty books and won many awards. She is mostly known for the Junie B. Jones Series. After year of making many kids and parents laugh she lost the battle to ovarian cancer and died on November 15, 2013 at the age of 66.

The whole Junie B. Jones series as the same theme in a school going through the days with many ups and downs and how to get through the day with a smile. The picture book is about a baby waiting to come into to the world because it is so boring in the womb. According to Entertainment Monthly Junie B. Jones was listed number seventy-one on the top 100 banned/challenged books of 2000-2009. Many parents say they dislike the series because Junie likes to speak her mind on what she feel or what is happening. Others say it should not be banned because there are not many confident strong women out in the world so they are good role models for the younger crowd. Barbara Parks is very proud on how popular this series became it is one her greatest
