Junie B. Jones: A Short Story

I recall as an elementary student reading my favorite series of all times Junie B. Jones. I was going through so much as a child that reading was the only way I could cope with my feelings. I learned the true meaning of struggle at a young age; life was very difficult at the time for me personally. I was not the type to talk about how I was feeling. I kept everything in, which was not good for my well being. I am the youngest out of my mother’s three children, so I was often left out of most events. As a baby, I was taken care of by my grandmother. When I was 8 years old, she had a stroke and flipped my world upside down. The only thing I could do was read just to keep me from crying. That same day she looked at me and said, “ Baby, I’m okay.” that made my day. Sometimes I would just sit in her room and read to her. I would try to do anything to make sure she was not lonely. I try my hardest to get good grades in school just so I could make her proud, she was my world. …show more content…

This one specific memoir called The Glass Castle caught my attention I was in love with the character and their situation. Jeannette Walls was my all time favorite: She was not afraid to do what her heart desire. At the time, I was scared and terrified to go out there and go for my dream which is becoming a

This assignment presented a bit of a challenge, as it has been slightly over three decades since being a young teen. Also, since books were a significant portion of my life growing up and I was an advanced reader, it remains nearly impossible to isolate, which of the life altering books I read, at which stages of my life. Gone with the Wind, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, To Kill a Mockingbird, Little Women, Diary of Anne Frank, Westmark, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Island of the Blue Dolphins; it seems this list could continue forever, each beloved, tattered book still has a home on my bookcase and in my heart, and have their effect on my life and personal perspective. Although it may be possible I read it slightly later in my teen years, I finally settled on…

My family wasn’t around a lot when I was younger. My mom and dad both worked full time jobs, and the age gap between my sisters and I made it hard for us to enjoy spending time together. I’ve always felt that the big age gap between me and everyone in my family always affected our closeness. They all seemed so grown up, understanding things that I had yet to grasp, and doing things that I wasn't able to do. I longed to be able to be as grown up as the rest of my family.…

“I’m sorry.” Two simple words that can be articulated to mean a number of different things. Two words that, unfortunately, we have been exposed to our entire lives. Two words that are perceived as a good thing, yet in all reality symbolize the acknowledgment of unacceptable acts. When these two words are strung together to create a sentence that will invariably be answered with a quick “It’s okay”, it is easy to assess what has just happened.…

Reading Memoir John Green, author of The Fault in Our Stars, stated,” Great books help you understand, and they help you feel understood.” Actually, reading books helps me to explore the world. When I was just a little girl, I loved reading fairy tales which brought me to many vicarious thrilling adventures, and when growing up, non-fiction books taught me how to become a good person. Besides that, reading has brought me to many various levels of emotions, such as joy, love, hate, fear, and sorrow. Some stories not only make me feel euphoric with happy endings, but they also make me feel despondent when a character’s deep sorrow touched my heart.…

When I was young I was never the best at reading even though my parents owned many books and magazines that they read on a daily basis. My mother enjoyed reading her gossip magazines that she would receive in the mail once a month and my father had a whole bookshelf full of history books. My parents would always encourage me to read the books I would check out at the school library to improve my reading and writing but that advice usually went in through one ear and out the other. The only books I would really attempt to read had to be humorous or horrifying, my favorites were the Goosebumps collection. I loved reading these books alone in my room where I couldn’t be sidetracked by all the commotion that went on in my house.…
