June Gromowski: An Interview With My Grandma

Great Essays
For my sophomore religion project I chose to interview June Gromowski, my Grandma. I chose her because ever since I was born I have lived with her. I grew up listening to her stories and she has inspired my faith in many ways. Whenever I struggle with my faith she encourages me with God’s word and tells me he has a plan. I have always found that extremely comforting since I know what she had to go through growing up. Grandma was born on September 2nd 1936, in Milwaukee Wisconsin. She was born a twin, her twin was JoAnn, she also had a brother named Richard. Her Mother was Lutheran and her father Catholic. She was baptized on December 18th 1936 at Apostle Lutheran Church (WELS). Apostle Lutheran Church was a very German church, mostly because …show more content…
She attended Milwaukee Area Technical School in fall and in 1955 she met my Grandpa, Robert Gromowski. He was her first and last boyfriend. He was in her typing class at MATC and was the most annoying person there. He constantly kept trying to get her to join the Air Force. His persistence worked, they were married September 1st, 1956. Grandma and Grandpa had 8 kids. Richard, Daniel, Russel, David, Dennis, Patrick, and JoAnn. One baby was not named because she had a miscarriage. In our family we count miscarriages as children. Both Daniel and Russell died a few weeks after born. At this moment in her life my Grandma struggled with her faith the most. It was hard for her to be committed to God when nothing seemed to be going right. To make matters worst when Dennis was six months old he was diagnosed with Polio. For months my Grandma never knew if she would be losing another …show more content…
All of her children were a handful but David, Dennis, and Patrick were the worst. She had to deal with drugs, premarital sex, fights, arrest, and even my Uncle David being shot. During this time she disregarded what the world was telling her to do but rather became closer to God and his word. In the middle of all of this my Grandpa who was raised in a strong Catholic family surprised my Grandma one Sunday and told her on the way to church that he was going to be confirmed to the WELS Lutheran faith that day. This made my her rejoice because she knew that the Holy Spirit worked in his heart had turned him away from the false teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. This was a major transitioning point in her faith life. Eventually four out of her five children had children. She now has eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Another major test of faith came for her when the most important people in her life dies. Her Mother died May 30th, 1996, my Grandpa March 19th, 2005. The worst was when my Aunt JoAnn (her twin) died. She died March 5th, 2014. The night before my Aunt died she begged for to stay the night, but my Grandma couldn’t. The next morning she was found dead. From an outsider looking in I can tell you my Grandmas faith has never been the same. Ever since that day it's seems like an on going battle. Some nights I find her reading her bible at two A.M. in the morning and other nights I find her upset with herself and

“I am just an old cracker,” jokes Hazel Singletary as she vividly recalls her childhood growing up on the island of Boca Grande. This Florida native’s story sounds like a page turner from a children’s novel as she retells stories of surviving appendicitis and Scarlett fever and emergency trips on the railways “putt-putt” car. Born in 1934, young Hazel Presley grew up the daughter of the island’s “ice man” and later grocer. She watched her entrepreneur father build and expand Presley Grocery where she first worked stocking shelves.…

Give examples of how the practice of ministry has affected your experience and understanding of A) God At the core of my understanding of God is a God of love in covenantal relationship with God’s children. Romans 8:38-39 says it well; “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The practice of ministry has only proven to strengthen that belief. I was called early Saturday morning to sit with a family who had just learned of the death of their daughter/granddaughter in a vehicle accident.…

What is a God? Is He a higher being someone made up to feel better when people did something bad? Or the “person” that is up in the sky waiting for us to join Him after we die? Or a real, loving, caring higher power whose always has your back? A Christian God is a God who holds all morals and who does not want to see His people hurting, but wanting them to succeed and have a great life.…

Greed has caused many problems throughout American history. You can trace American greed from the beginning days when the colonists took land from Native Americans to owners of meatpacking companies forcing their employees to work in horrible conditions in the Progressive Era. One of the most prominent examples of greed in modern day United States is the issue of organ donation. Mahatma Gandhi once said,”There is a sufficiency in the world for man’s need but not for man’s greed.” Organ donation is an issue facing our society today, but luckily it has a solution.…

October 12th. The day that I,Heather Kubel, a freshman at Sierra Lutheran High School, would have embedded in my memory forever. The day that I will always be able to remember the exact details, despite the shudder that would come from recalling it. I had had a pretty basic life up to now. I had an older brother in college and two parents who had taken me to church every Sunday since I was a little girl; despite the fact that my father and the rest of my family were Jewish.…

The crucible was about a lengthy trial which caused many people to open their eyes and see the bigger picture. In my opinion, most have gone through, or will go through, a severe trial during their life that will cause them to change their perspective. For me the trail I experienced which impacted me the most was seeing my little sister in critical condition at the age of two. I was nine and my world turned upside down for what seemed like forever. Although I was young at the time, the thought of not having my little sister in my life impacted me strongly, and led me to mature.…

One person has always had the power to make a difference in another’s life. Whether that be a family member teaching a little one kindness, or even on a bigger scale Martin Luther King Jr. leading a revolution to the acceptance of people with different colored skin. Even bad people can make a change for the good, like a school shooter who makes schools realize they need a plan in place for an attack on their students. One person can change the way others think entirely and can impact their lives in a major way. Lori Ann Heyden, my grandmother, had made a huge impact in my life.…
