Since Lily has been taken in by the Boatwright sisters, May, June and August in The Secret Life of Bees, conclusions have been drawn about all three individual sister, each possesing diverse qualities that are easily shown throughout the story. August Boatwright is a welcoming and understanding older sister that takes care of the honey company along with Lily, Rosaleen and her two other sisters. August has taken it upon herself to give them a welcoming stay and convince June that Lily is no different then themselves. June Boatwright seems to hold a strong grudge against Lily, and has no care in the world for her. Since the day she has met her, she has showed how much hatred she truly does have for Lily, and wanted nothing more than for Lily …show more content…
Instead, she was too busy stuck up in her own little world. May was once a twin with April Boatwright until April’s life was too much to handle as she committed suicide at a very young age. Growing up together, these two twins always felt what the other sister was feeling as they suffered the same pain and emotions as well as following in each others footsteps and taking the same actions. Since April has been gone, May has suffered extreme depression and often falls into trances as she sings “Oh Susanna,” in order to keep away the tears. May is overly sensitive about the world and what goes on around it, as she feels like everything bad that goes on in it happens to her as well. August and June have constructed a wailing wall, therefore May can write down all the sad things she goes through and sticks the notes in her wall, in which she often goes to. Recently in the story however, May hasn’t been acting like herself.
