The accomplishment of receiving the Jumpstart scholarship would do wonders in the next step for my education in the subsidizing of the costs that come with attending college. I seek to attend Johnson & Wales University and upon acceptance, have been fortunate enough to receive a significant number of grants and loans from the university that nearly cover my entire college tuition. Yet, my parents and myself still face the obstacle of paying for room rates as well as possible meal plans for the trimesters. This obstacle is only made harder in the additional expenses of books, transportation, off-campus meals and personal items. So, the possibility of receiving this scholarship plays a major factor into how far I will get into attending my first

Scholarship, service, leadership, and character are the characteristics that lay the foundation for success and are the reason why I perform at such a high degree in everything that I do. Although I’ve always had high ambitions for myself, the scholarship aspect of the National Honor Society confirms the importance of education and also reaffirms that anything is possible and it made easier with academic achievement. However, any achievement, academic or not, is meaningless to me if I don’t give back one way or another to the people who made my success possible including teachers, school staff members, fellow classmates, parents, and friends. On top of this, I learned that the smallest of gestures can make a big difference in someone’s life…

I believe I should be awarded the Courage to Grow scholarship of how hard I’ve worked to stay in school this past year. My sophomore year was by far the hardest time for me. I struggled trying to get more involved in organizations, take more credit hours to stay on track for graduation, and trying to maintain a certain grade point average to keep my waiver. The start of my sophomore year started with my single parent, not being able to receive a loan, which would cover the rest of my tuition after my financial aid was processed. I figured this was the end of my college career…

I have had extensive conversations with my current foster parent in regards to my stay during my years in college to be certain I won’t have to worry about this issue for the coming years. Furthermore, I have spoken to my agency and other scholarships to make them aware of the payment deadlines to hopefully incite payments being submitted on time. I have registered for all next semester classes, and will continue to do so every semester to prevent any financial holds on my SAGE account from restricting me entrance into my classes, and I’ve begun taking courses through Lynda academic portal used by the university to try and get a head start in all the class material. Although I have a full tuition scholarship from the school and other smaller ones from outside, considering that I don’t get government funding and my parents help with none of the bills, it is up to me to make sure I am on track with them. The first way I made sure that I was a little bit better set for this year is by signing up for the 20% down payment monthly plan the school has using a third party. I spent the entire summer getting money so I can make the 20% payment. Considering my entire legal issue ‘getting money’ is an entire complication of it’s own. My whole summer 's worth of hard work has gone into that first payment and once the rest of the bill has been divided into eight months of payments starting October 5th, I will have one more scholarship that will come in and lower it but am still in the process of figuring out how I am going to cover for the rest of it.…
