Like thousands of other students, Mady Trummer had been jumping into Mirror Lake as part of a yearly tradition for Ohio State Students during the week leading up to the football game against Michigan. Singletary was a 22 year old junior from Dayton. He was pulled from the lake during last year’s jump after having suffered cardiac arrest. Paramedics treated him immediately on the scene, but he died later in the morning at Ohio State’s Wexner Medical Center.
“It sucks.” Recently graduated student Ryan Leynaud weighs in, “Jumping in Mirror Lake was one of my favorite traditions during my time at OSU. I get why they decided to cancel the event, but it still sucks.”
Other students have had similar sentiments, but most agree that it is time that the time honored tradition should be let go. In recent years the event has brought nearly 15,000 people to jump in the lake, most in an inebriated state. Some students hope for a return of the jump once construction ends.
