As the cold November air caused her to shiver she looked up to see that it had finally begun to snow. However, this only strengthened her resolve and with a final breath she closed her eyes and leaped into the frigid cold water to join her peers.
Like thousands of other students, Mady Trummer had been jumping into Mirror Lake as part of a yearly tradition for Ohio State Students during the week leading up to the football game against Michigan. But for the first time since 1990, this annual tradition of jumping into Mirror Lake will not transpire.

Singletary was a 22 year old junior from Dayton. He was pulled from the lake during last year’s jump after having suffered cardiac arrest. Paramedics treated him immediately on the scene, but he died later in the morning at Ohio State’s Wexner Medical Center.
“It sucks.” Recently graduated student Ryan Leynaud weighs in, “Jumping in Mirror Lake was one of my favorite traditions during my time at OSU. I get why they decided to cancel the event, but it still sucks.”
Other students have had similar sentiments, but most agree that it is time that the time honored tradition should be let go. They also planned to install 3 stop logs that are 6” high in the 4th opening of the spillway, which would allow the lake to be raised 18 inches above the design level. To do this though they had to lower the lake an additional 3 feet as well as a cost to residents of $10,000. The residents of the lake were vastly opposed to this idea.…

When I was about 3 years old, I can remember my Grandparents lake house in Houston, Texas. My parents and I lived there until my grandparents moved into the country 2 hours outside Houston. Before moving, I can remember my mother taking me out to the lake to feed the ducks and always telling me I can’t swim in the lake because it’s too dirty. I remember going into the kitchen to get juice and spilled it everywhere and was found cleaning my mess while cursing because I thought saying “Shit” and “God Damnit” would magically clean the mess. I would grab a stick of butter and sit 3 inches from the television while watching the Teletubbies.…

College Life Technology is changing the world every second, especially in colleges, which is creating less and less social interaction. In Graeme Woods article “Is College Doomed” he explains the idea of Ben Nelson’s school called Minerva, and how it differs from a typical college. In Minerva, technology is the primary source for education, without technology Minerva would not exist; but with technology there does come problems, such as glitches. Having a college function by technology can not only fail because of the technical problems, but also cause students to become more secluded and diminish their social skills. Minerva is a University that is strictly all about a students education for their future careers in life, but college should…

A phrase that I’ve become all too familiar with hearing is, ‘You can’t like both Ohio State and Michigan’. As a native to southern Ohio, it was inevitable that I would grow up to be a die-hard Buckeye just like my parents. There used to be a running joke between my dad and his friends that we’d know the world was ending the day a Rogers child decided to attend ‘that school up north’. If this was true, the world would have ended the day of my high school graduation. As I walked across the stage, I awaited the laughter that was soon to follow once my baby and senior pictures flashed across the screen.…
