Basketball- technical skills

Jump shot- A jump shot is an attempt to score a basket by jumping, usually straight up and in mid-jump, propelling the ball in an arc into the basket. As the body straightens and springs off from the ground, both arms should be straight and extended. A jump shot is also difficult to block because the shot is taken from a higher position. This shot is the most effective in open play but can be hard to do if there is a taller player in front of the shooter. The jump shot has advantages such as if the player has a quicker release then that makes the execution time faster. However, a disadvantage of the jump shot is that if the player has a lower shooting height, this means that there is less time for the shooter to aim. An example of a jump shot is when the player's position themselves to shoot he/she jumps into the air and releases the ball.

This pass gets the ball up the court quicker and is the most accurate and safest pass in the game. To do a chest pass, a player must do the following: hold the ball close to their chest; extend arms fully as the player pushes the ball; eyes should be on the receiver as the pass is made. This pass should finish with the wrists snapping inwards. The player's fingers should be pointing towards their target. An advantage of the chest pass is that it is quick and simple to do. However, if not done properly then it can be difficult for the receiver to catch. An example of when a chest pass is used is when: a player wants to pass the ball to his/hers teammate as quick as possible. So the player steps forward as they throw the ball towards another player at chest

The loop pass is when the first player usually a dummy half or the first receiver of a play of the ball or a penalty loops around the player who he has just passed the ball to. He will loop around the player and then receive the ball again. But only if he is fast enough if he is to slow the move wouldn’t work because he wouldn’t be in the right position to receive the pass. After the first player has got the ball back he should proceed to pass the ball down the line. This could lead to metres gained, line break or even directly into a try.…
