Shivana Quotes

Improved Essays
After reading the second section of the book I feel bad for Shivana. She is willing to do anything to get an abortion and she is extremely desperate. When she meets the cab driver she engages in sex with him just to make more money. She then has a breakdown because she realizes there will be consequences when she goes home and her mom finds out that she is pregnant. Another example of when Shivana is desperate is in this quote “Jump on my stomach and make me lose this shit.” She is willing to go through pain just to get rid of “it.” She is scared and she wants to have everything back to normal. My favorite part is when she learns the name of the boy she has had her eyes on. His name is Rasul and she likes him despite his physical appearance. …show more content…
When I read this line “She laughed, and that’s when I broke down. I already missed the sound of her laughter. She only hugged me like I was a child missing a toy that she knew where to find,” I remember saying good bye to my closest cousin Valentina, she is a sweetheart. So bubbly and full of life, when I said bye to her I just broke down because she inspires and has always been there for me. I can relate to how Shivana felt. I am not sure what happens later on in the story, but I hope Shivana gets the money and does get the abortion. If she gets the abortion she can continue on the path of education and follow her dreams. I think that she should tell her mom because I think that keeping secrets is definitely not a good idea because at times it could make things a lot worse. Whenever I try to hide something from my mom she finds out. I think trust and honesty is very important in a relationship, including a relationship with a …show more content…
Rasul does not use Shivana like Leroy did; this could be a new chapter in Shivana’s negative outlook on life. I think that one person can really impact your life and affect you in a good way. Whether it be a friend, co-worker, neighbor, etc. Anyone can impact you and for example, one person that changed my life would be my mom. She is a strong person who always thinks positively and tells me to not worry about stupid things. She helped me through a year of horrible anxiety last year and I could not have done it without her help. Just ONE person can change your life. In this case, I think that Rasul is going to change Shivana’s life is a brighter

There’s no doubt that everywhere you go, you are being judged. By the people around you, the animals, even microscopic organisms judge you (not kidding). For instance, many times I get judged by my own mom about my hair, my shoes, and the fact that I love cheeseburgers since it’s said to cause acne; although, I don’t really care for those statements about how I look, because if you really want to know someone or make good friends, you look past looks, and you judge people by personality. Wouldn’t it be nice if the whole world was like that? That is the truth, the whole truth, the unvanquished truth is how Freak would say it.…
