“The beauty of Jumbo campground at Mesa, Colorado”
The sun shone fair brilliant white light through the thin mist. The mist wrapped around the camp site in the glassy air. A cozy thin breeze it was; like a fine cloying wine searching the palate and bringing a bloom to the cheek. The air was cool and brisk, like a refreshing drink of cold lemonade after hours under the scorching sun. Red, yellow and orange leaves fluttered on the soft caring breeze. It was as if a friendly hand was affably lowering them to the ground. Whispers between these leaves filled the air. The breeze fluttered around, amiably caressing everything it touched with fingers that had been a comfort to so many over their

The mist loomed as far as I could see. It was almost tangible and everything still became silhouettes against a blanket of white. The tall Freemont cottonwood tree tops disappeared in the swirling white. There was something different about the breeze. It seemed angry and subtle. The breeze plucked the leaves and the worn-out fruits from the branches creating a cemetery. The laughing breeze crept to me, hissing at the warmth of my body. The cold became my foe ready to strike at me with its poisonous venom like a snake. The melodious sound of the distant birds that rent the air receded like chaff before the wind. The tranquility in the camp was unbelievable. Everyone’s footsteps in the camp being swallowed by a lurking beast in the vicinity. The gelid breeze from the hill tops carried an unsettling smell. The particles invaded my lungs like bees smoked from their hive. Its unpleasant odor was as fresh as any meadow without the tincture of grass. The squalor wrapped itself around my body like the second skin, I neither want nor need. The air ricked of death. I saw many flies gadding around a carcass that appeared bloated. Indeed, death had his way

On the south there was blue sky, golden sunlight and tranquility; on the north, there was a menacing curtain of boiling black dust that appeared to reach a thousand or more feet into the air. It had the appearance of a mammoth waterfall in reverse – color as well as form. The apex of the cloud was plumed and curling, seething and tumbling over itself from north to south and whipping trash, papers, sticks, and cardboard cartons before it. Even the birds were helpless in the turbulent onslaught and dipped and dived without benefit of wings as the wind propelled them. As the wall of dust and sand struck our house the sun was instantly blotted out completely.…

Over this ran aluminum roaches and iron crickets, and in the hot still air butterflies of delicate red tissue wavered among the sharp aroma of animal spoors! There was the sound like a great matted yellow hive of bees within a dark bellows, the lazy bumble of a purring lion. And there was the patter of okapi feet and the murmur of a fresh jungle rain, like other hoofs falling upon the summer-starched grass. Now the walls dissolved into distances of parched weed, mile on mile, and warm endless sky. The animals drew away into thorn brakes and water holes.…

A hot summer afternoon it was. Julia, my host at Innisfree HawalBagh (Uttarakhand), showed me the walk way to Kosi river. He was immersed by its serenity; there were no words to describe it. Glistening on blades of grass as the morning sun began to cast its brilliant golden rays across the land, the autumn dawn was born. Famous for the snow white clouds moseying against the duel shades of blues and oranges painted across the picturesque sky, birds simultaneously tweeted out to each other in a chorus. An ancient oak tree proudly guarded the fields, casting a magnificent shadow across the shrubbery that surrounded it.…

It was only 2 o’clock in the morning. Palms sweating with blood and a delicate heart that is fighting with itself to continue beating. Everything was a disaster. The smell of death filled Myrtle Avenue and arose from the weightless body.…
