Brutus, Julius Caesar, Mark Antony, and etc. for some reason or another the men desired or thrived off of power. Whether by manipulation or brute force power was always something someone was trying to achieve. Julius Caesar already had power over the people of rome. At a glance, the play Julius Caesar, by William Shakespeare, portrays power changing people into autocratic leaders. But, if one ventured a closer look at the motives and the background of some of the main characters, the evidence simply does not support this theory. Corruption has little to no relation to power, as displayed by the motives of Marcus Brutus, Cassius, and Julius Caesar himself. Marcus Brutus is referred to as “The noblest Roman of them all” because his higher status never wavers his decisions for his country. Cassius was one of the many Senators of Rome from whom Caesar stole power, but seems to be the only one taking initiative to retrieve it.…

Tragedies of the Elizabethan era often explore characters whose most harrowing conflicts originate from dark places within the innermost levels of immoral hearts. As written by the playwright Shakespeare, Julius Caesar considerably displays that traditionally nefarious quality in his characterization. Although, more specifically, Caesar’s tragic flaw is his overly ambitious nature, which eventually becomes the cause for his downfall despite having originally been what had brought him many successes. The character’s tragic flaw manifests itself throughout the play by demonstrating a tale of hubris: while Caesar’s egotism creates envious enemies after his blood, it is undoubtedly Caesar’s own personal actions that are ultimately responsible for…

"The Tragedy of Julius Caesar" is one of many plays written by William Shakespeare, this tragedy is well-known for its nonfictional incorporation relating to, or rather based off of, true events from Roman history. After the Civil war against Pompeii, Julius Caesar returns home and is labeled a hero, causing much excitement and some jealousy to rise within those closest to Caesar; his murder then was planned and executed, forcing Antony to remind the people of Rome who Caesar really was and of everything he did for his country, thus contradicting Brutus' failed attempt to justify his actions in "his" people's eyes. Using rhetoric to appeal to, relate to, and question the people of Rome and to add to not only his own credibility, but to that of the once mighty Caesar's as well, Antony was able to have a better connection with his audience helping him to persuade them to lean in his favor.…
