Julius Caesar is a person made iconic by William Shakespeare. He can be viewed in a few different ways. He can be seen as the hero with a tragic fate, as the arrogant and greedy politician, or even as the cruel villain. The view of the politician comes from his need for power and his rather arrogant self-confidence. The view of the villain comes from him murdering Pompey and his refusal to repeal the banishment of Publius Cimber. The greatest focus is on the view of the tragic hero. But sill to others the answer lies in the fact that Caesar was the first to be corrupted by power and by extension corrupted Antony, Brutus, and Cassius. Not to mention that all of the events that happen after Caesars death most certainly would have never happened if he had not been killed. Caesar was a Roman general who was both respected and seen as a threat by the people. This can be indirectly concluded when Brutus, although loves Caesar, is looking out for Rome as a whole instead of Caesar “Not that I love Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more” (Brutus). He was compassionate towards the poor yet greedy for his own power. He was very intelligent and I believe he could have prevented his death had he been given more time. I think this because Antony suggests to him that he should not be afraid of Cassius “Fear him (Cassius) not, Caesar, he’s not dangerous, /…

This is understandable, considering the title of the play is Caesar’s own name; it is obvious why most would equate Caesar as being the tragic hero of his own story. However, with closer reading and analyzation, it becomes clear that Caesar should not receive credit for this particular role. Through other supporting characters of the play, such as Cassius, and different qualities that make a tragic hero, it becomes easy to identify the candidate as none other than one of Caesar’s closest friends and confidants.…
