Cassius has planned to kill Caesar to end his rain for the benefit of the people of Rome, when Cassius is actually jealous of Caesar. Why? He is jealous because he thinks Caesar is unfit to be a king, he does not care about Rome, and that Cassius himself deserves to be king rather than Caesar. Cassius eventually persuades Brutus by using his love and loyalty for the people of Rome, saying that Caesar’s ruling will not be beneficial for the people of Rome. Cassius and Brutus then hatch the plan to gather up conspirators that area against Caesar and to kill Caesar during his ceremony. “Shall in these confines with a monarch’s voice cry “Havoc,” and let slip the dogs of war, that this foul deed shall smell above the earth with carrion men, groaning for burial.” (Act 3, Scene ii, Lines 272-275) This is when Antony finds Caesar on the floor with his blood on the hands of the conspirators, especially Brutus. “Here, take thou the hilts, and when my face is covered, as ‘tis now, guide thou sword Caesar, thou art revenged, even with the sword that killed thee.” (Act 5, Scene iii, Lines 43-46) After thinking that Brutus was captured and taken prisoner in Parthia, Cassius knows that the winning the war is nothing without having his best friend by his side. Cassius then proceeds to allow Pindarus to stab his with the sword that killed Caesar, making Pindarus a freeman. As Cassius says his last words, he mentions that Caesar will now have his vengeance against Cassius as he was a part of the conspiracy. Cassius was not the only one that made the decision to end his own life, “Thy life hath had some smatch of honor in it; hold then my sword, and turn away thy face, while I do run upon it. Wilt thou, Strato?” (Act 5, Scene V, Lines 46-48) Now Brutus makes the decision to end his own life, giving Antony and Octavius the victory in the war. Once hearing that Cassius was dead, Brutus knew the war was over because Brutus could not win the fight against Antony and Octavius alone. Brutus and Cassius said their last words both saying that Caesar will now be at rest since Caesar has been avenged.
