“The pen is mightier than the sword.” is originated from Sir Edward Bulwer-Lytton. Words shouldn’t ever be took lightly, they’re extremely powerful and think about how words affect people. It can change the way a person thinks and takes things in. Two speeches by famous people such as former president Barack Obama and Steve Jobs delivery very emotional and empowering speeches such as Obama's 2013 Inauguration Speech and Steve Jobs’ 2005 Commencement Speech still to this day inspire people. Not only do speeches affect people, but hatred in the words of everyday people can cause emotions and some may even act of these emotions, today in this word there is bullying and there is many ways to use your words to say these things and people act upon these words. In each of their speeches they used the literary techniques ethos, pathos, and logos. This is where they give credible information, touch the reader’s emotions, and use logical arguments/facts. In Antony’s speech he uses ethos and says “He was my friend, faithful and just to me.” In Steve Jobs speech he uses ethos by talking about being in school and dropping out because that happened. Antony uses logos in his speech by teasing the crowd about Caesar’s will, but not actually telling them, which is similar with steve jobs. STeve jobs uses logos by talking about his success, because he is very successful in his career. Lastly, Antony uses pathos by saying “Bear with me. My heart is in the coffin there with Caesar, and I must pause till it come back to me.” And after saying so he starts to cry. This relates to the part in Steve Jobs speech where he tells the audience about his cancer. All of these literary techniques help him by making his speech strong and
