Throughout history, leaders have led their nations through uprisings and downfalls. Some leaders have even turned against their countries by putting their citizens in compromising situations. Benito Mussolini can be seen as a leader who brought many victories to his country. Overtime, this growing power began to affect the ethical decisions he made for his nation. Being greedy, egotistical, and power hungry was a recipe for turmoil. Although Mussolini did many helpful and progressive actions for his people, his malicious intentions were what turned his own followers against him. Benito Mussolini often referred himself as a ‘modern-day Julius Caesar.’ Julius Caesar and Benito Mussolini share a lot of similarities. Their selfishness, hunger for power, and lack of credibility is what eventually turned their loyal followers against them. Caesar and Mussolini both led Italy into war with other countries, but ultimately the country ended their reigns in a war with itself. By possessing these bad-natured qualities, their loved ones revolted and took action into their own hands.
Mussolini’s incumbency ended with a most gruesome death, due to his egocentric personality. His manipulative mannerisms turned his fascist party of 250,000+ members against him. Plotted by members of the Fascist party, Benito Mussolini, his mistress--Clara Petacci--and 15 or so members of his still-loyal Fascist community, were shot and hanged in Milan. The reign of a tyrant had come to an end, and Italy had been sent into a civil war.
