History In 1912 a woman named Juliette Gordon Low also known as “Daisy”, decided to gather 18 girls in her hometown of Savannah, Georgia, to teach them about new outdoor and education programs for young kids while she was abroad. With this movement, The Girl Scouts were born. The reason for starting Girl Scouts was Juliette Low wanted these girls to become prepared and be able to grow up with courage, confidence, and character. Juliette Gordon Low was 51 years old when she created Girl Scouts. She was nearly deaf and according to girlscouts.org, she “sparked a worldwide movement inspiring girls to embrace, together, their individuality, strength, and intellect”.

Unfortunately, throughout her young life, she had experienced numerous ear injuries that did result in almost total hearing loss, this did affect her for the remainder of her life. In 1886, she married William Mackay Low, which between England and Georgia, they set up homes. Sadly, though, William died in 1905. Before the first gathering of Girl Scouts, she had a meeting with Sir Robert Baden-Powell, who is the founder of Boy Scouts, which became the inspiration to establish Girl …show more content…
