Julie Andrews was born on October 1, 1935 in England. When she was born her orginally name was Julia Elizabeth Wells. She got Tony award nominations for her roles in Camelot and My fair Lady. She won an Academy Award for playing as Mary Poppins and was nominated for her performance in The Sound of Music. She worked on many films with her husband, Blake Edwards, and in the year she was made a dame. (A dame is a women that has the same title or rank as a knight.) She came from a musical family. Her mother a pianist and her stepfather a singer. She moved to America when her first found success took place in the late 1940s. In the mid 1950s she starred in The Boyfriend. Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music is what got her all her fans. They have remained popular and still …show more content…
It seemed like Julie wanted more challenges in the 1980s. She starred in S.O.B. in 1981. Andrews took it as far as pretending to be a man pretending to be a women in Victor/Victoria. Victor/Victoria earned her her 3rd Oscar of her career. In 1996, she returned to Broadway to do the same play again. She got a Tony Award nomination but refused it because she thought or felt that the cast was being overlooked. Julie Andrews had a huge personal setback. Her vocal cords got damaged during an operation. She never got her singing voice back but that didn’t stop her from acting in films. Queen Elizabeth II of England made her a dame. After that she played as a monarch in The Princess Diaries which was made in 2001 but also played in its sequel The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement which was made in 2004. She is still alive today at 81 years old. She has 3 children by the names of Emma Walton Hamilton, Joanna Edwards, and Amy Edwards. One of her famous Quotes I love is “Sometimes opportunities float right past your nose. Work hard, apply yourself, and be ready. When an opportunity comes you can grab it.”~Julie
