Julia Child was born in Pasadena, California in 1912. She attended boarding school from the 3rd to 6th grade. She attended a separate boarding school to finish her secondary schooling, she then attended Smith College. Child graduated Smith College in 1934 with a major in English, however in 2004 an article stated that her major was History. Child had a chef that served her family, and a Grandmother who was capable of cooking cruller’s and donuts. However, contrary to popular belief, Child did not learn to cook until she met her husband. Upon graduating Child moved to moved to New York City, where she then worked as a copywriter for the advertising department of W. & J. Sloane.

She went on to publish articles in food columns, new cookbooks, and helped found The American Institute of Wine and Food. She became the first woman elected to the Culinary Institute Hall of Fame in1993. In 1994 Paul Child died, despite being saddened by his death she brought out a new book and television series. She also hosted an annual trip to Italy for food lovers. In 2000 Child won the Legion d'Honneur. In 2001 she moved to Montecito, California, and oversaw the opening of a restaurant named after her, Julia's Kitchen in Napa, California. In 2002 she donated the kitchen from her Cambridge home to the Smithsonian Institution, where it will be restored as an exhibit at the National Museum of American History. Julia Child died on August 13, 2004, leaving behind a legacy of inspired fans and
