Julia Chigamba Research Paper

Last Saturday, Julia Chigamba and her family presented an unforgettable dance performance on campus. Julia Chigamba came from Zimbabwe which is a beautiful country in South Africa. She was invited to many places to performance and teach people how to dance. After watching the dance, I believed there was something special in her dance which could make people feel refreshed and energetic. These dance all described about daily scenes in Zimbabwe for example how women do the chores, how men go out for hunting as well as how people sow seeds. By elaborate choreography design, these scenes were made in to dance performance. Because of the expressive dance, audience actually were able to imagine the comfortable daily life in a peaceful Zimbabwe village. Traditional African dances have features of enthusiastic and exaggerative movements and rhythmical background music. The base idea of traditional African dance is to enjoy the happiness and joy in life. However, traditional Chinese dances focus more on the inner energy for example Qi. The continuity of movements is emphasized in traditional Chinese dances. For example, when we are performing Qi Gong, rather than focus on the strength of each movement, we would focus on the philosophical concept of the inner energy in the human body.
