Jules and Jim Film Analysis Trying to comprehend this film was hard because to read the subtitles and trying to look at the scene of where the characters were at felt like the audience had to choose which one was important, the conversation between the characters or scenes of where the characters were at to make the plot. This understanding between the scenes and the words connect with the film of Catherine choosing between two men. This connection of the words and the scenes tells the audience that we have to choose and if we do choose the words then we miss a couple of the scenes and if the audience chooses the scenes then we miss five to ten words, which to the audience feels like we missed the entire plot of the film. The film is about a triangle relationship between two men and one women (not including Albert), who could not acknowledge that their picture-perfect contentment was ending and shadowed it into depressed and gloomy places. That is the reason why Truffaut, the director, ended with a sadness and his quote about the film is “I begin a film believing it will be amusing and along the way I notice that only sadness can save it,” (Jules and Jim). Therefore, the deeper focus of this film is that there is no winning the boundaries of love, because love from the characters are confining and appealing. The paradox of freedom from Catherine and love from the other men embodies the film and shows how love and freedom cannot fit together into the characters life because love is cruel and jealous emotion that does not let the audience feel free but without it in our lives we seem meaningless. However, that is why couples break up, make up, and emphasize social control crescendos. While the remarriage story line shows a common tale at a personal level of a happy ending , that imply the couples to stay
