Equal on the Inside If Adolf Hitler and Nelson Mandela were put in a room together, one could identify the good and the bad of the two. If Joseph Stalin and Mahatma Ghandi were put in a room together, the good-nature and the evil of the two would be easy to distinguish between. Would one consider the similar characteristics between the opposites? Although humans come in all shapes, sizes, nationalities, races, and genders, there are three characteristics inherent to all mankind: (1) The capability to be judgmental, (2) The capability to be protective, (3) The capability to be fearful. Are all human traits inherent? Being judgmental is one main trait that all humans share, no matter what. A question one may consider is: is the capability to be judgmental an adaptive trait or an inherent trait? All humans are judgmental to some degree, no matter the age, gender, or race (“Are Humans Inherently Judgmental”). In the Bible, Matthew 7:1-5 states that “Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured …show more content…

Studies have shown that humans are born with only two fears: the fear of loud noises and the fear of falling (“Fears We Are Born With”). So as humans are born with fear, they also build off of the parents’ fear (“Fears We Are Born With”). Most fears start with a baby bump is formed (“Fears We Are Born With”). The unborn child will pick up on the responses the mother gives to certain situations and the noises that surround her (“Fears We Are Born With”). This will lead to naturally inborn fears, and the child will also create adaptive fears (“Fears We Are Born With”). Burnett argues that fear is important in terms of evolution (e.g., the fight or flight response) and escaping predator, but that phobias in modern times are irrational and based on the brain making connections that are not there and that these contribute to superstitions and conspiracies (apophenia). Phobias are extreme and debilitating fears, that might result in a physiological arousal (Phobias NHS Choices, 2016).Researchers and the author claim that fear can be learned. Andreas, Nearing, and Phelps (2007) argue that first-hand experience is not necessary for learned fear since it can be acquired by observing others. Likewise, Burnett suggests that parents have an influence on their children’s perceptions of fear. The author goes on to say that those with irrational beliefs (e.g., phobias, supernatural and conspiracies theories) have less brain activity in comparison sceptics.…
