Joseph Merrick, or Elephant Man as he's more commonly known as, didn't get this luxury. With bony and fleshy tumors covering his body, he always got stares wherever he went. A more recent example of this is Rose Siggins. Rose was born with legs that didn't work, so her parents had them amputated. Rose had a documentary made about her life that was featured in a documentary series by the British Broadcasting Corporation. In the documentary, Rose talks about how she got stares practically everywhere she went. She really had no way to work at a normal job, like Gregor Samsa in the story, The Metamorphosis. In the story, Samsa is unable to work because of a new physical appearance brought upon him. Even though it's not as extreme as having tumors covering your body, or having no legs, people with scars can be misjudged too. When I was in fourth grade, I slipped and fell on a sharp pile of rocks in my driveway. I had to get thirteen stitches, and after the scar had healed, I had people that were scared to come near me because of my "scary
